The Cuban Missile Crisis
When the Cold War Got Hot
Permanent Collection

This 10,000 square foot exhibition highlights the tense events of October 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It entertains as well as educates. Visitors can see and feel just how close we came to nuclear war with the Soviet Union in this experiential exhibit.

Enter a classroom from 1962 to practice "Duck and Cover". See how a nation learned about civil defense. Feel the tension of the war coming closer while watching President Kennedy address the nation on a vintage television. Step down into a community fallout shelter complete with emergency supplies and equipment. Lay down on a bunk bed and imagine what it must feel like to experience a nuclear attack.

The exhibit also includes numerous props from the Beacon Pictures film Thirteen Days which was released in December 2000 and starred Kevin Costner.
